Great deal, great performance, great finish

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jul 30, 2001
First off. This set-up is a good price. It works well in my room when used with my computer. In my small room, watching movies is a charm. I've never had a distort or any kind of unpleasant sound come from the speakers, and I pump them loud for movies. I really haven't noticed anything bad at all with this system, except that the main unit is not as fancy as the RP-U200, and that no control of any sort was included! That can get annoying when the room is packed with people.

However, this system is great. It looks are far superior when compared to Creative's systems and its performance is tough to beat.

Yamaha TSS-1 WHITE

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 2, 2002 (Santa Clara, CA United States)
Like most of the reviews, the most appealing thing about this set is the sound upgrade most people experience who are looking to upgrade from the 2 "multimedia" speakers they received with their system or paid less than [amt]. The volume levels are adequate for most music when used what it was designed for - connected to your computer station with the speakers aimed at you and your sound stage in a small area - maybe 8' by 8' sitting in a chair. If it's volume you are after, go up to the [amt] units. The other convienent things in this price range is the headphone jack and the separate amplifier / control unit which is now on my desk within reach. Most sound sources have different volume / tonal qualities which I like to constantly adjust - so having the control unit on the desk is a great advantage for me. The only thing that this unit needs is a treble control. Overall a great unit but be true to yourself on how you will use it. This is no substitute for a home theater system.

This Grass is Pretty Green Too

(5 out of 5) by Charles D Dial on Jun 17, 2003 (Cleveland, OH)
..

I purchased the TSS-1W from Amazon a few months back. I was unhappy with the "guitar" sound I was getting through them because I record my own music. So, I sold them ... . I was never UNhappy with them when music and movies were concerned. And looking back, I can remember myself saying "WOW .. I have NEVER heard music sound like that before" when I used the digital input.

So ... looking for that greener grass ... I spent [a lot] on the Logitech Z-680's. These are reported in many reviews as "the greatest 5.1 speakers we have ever heard" ... or ... "In this wrap-up of all computer speakers, we find the Logitech Z-680's the undisputed kings"

Well .. it ain't so, Joe.

These Yamaha speakers are absolutely OUTSTANDING. Any price. I paid over three times the amount for "the best computer speakers money can buy". And they weren't. These Yamahas are far cleaner, crisper and have better sound field definition. They have an incredible "tight" sound. The subwoofer probably isn't the best subwoofer for RAP music but for any other type of music or games or movies, it's absolutely fine.

This isn't a comment that is saying "these speakers are just as good as the expensive ones" or "good speakers for the money". This is a comment that is saying "I have owned both and these sets of speakers and the Yamaha TSS-1W is the clearly SUPERIOR set of speakers". Cost or no cost, it doesn't matter. These are just better. Period.

Great speakers to have!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 25, 2002
These are the best speakers I have heard for the price! I had very good quality Labtec speakers that I was satisfied with, so buying these was a random purchase. I am VERY glad I did buy them. These are great for the computer, the TV, a DVD player, as additional speakers for a stereo, and anything else that uses sound. It comes with cables for dual analog, coaxial, and fiber-optic. The quality of the sound is the same at minimal volume and max. There is no distortion that I can detect due to increased volume. A must for anyone who wants to boost thier home entertainment system.

Gr8 Capability, Needs a Treble Control

(4 out of 5) by Tanmay Joshi on Aug 8, 2003 (Mumbai, India.)
To begin with, if u want to use these speakers with a computer, consider the rating to be 5 star. I use them with a DVD Player. I sorely missed the presence of treble enhancement. These speakers do have a bass enhancement control (subwoofer vol) but the absence of a treble control cuts out the crisp highs that the speakers are capable of delivering. Computer users wont feel the pinch because they can enhance the treble through windows or their sound playback software. For me, I had to connect standalone graphic equalizers to enhance the highs. After this of course, the results were mind blowing.
Everybody is cribbing about the absence of a remote, but that is just an inconvenience. The absence of a treble control seriously hampers the speakers' high pitch output, which hurts especially because the speakers CAN deliver crisp highs if connected thru a graphic eq.
