MVP200 MultiTech VOIP (voice over ip) 2 line gateway

(5 out of 5) by Marvin Braswell on Jul 26, 2003 (South Carolina USA)
I am an IT guy, and my company has used both the Cisco and MultiTech VOIP products, and we prefer MultiTech. The MVP units do much more that a "G." coding method: they also uses "NetCoder". We have used "NetCoder" to get high quality VOIP calls at only 14Kbps of bandwidth. It works well on the bandwidth of DSL, cable modem or 64K T1, and it doesn't require a Cisco router. Having said that, I do use a MultiTech broadband router on my DSL line because I have found many DSL/cable routers don't form a true DMZ which is required for the best functioning of Microsoft's H.323 protocol. MultiTech products are also much easier and flexible to configure, and MultiTech gives 800 number technical support at no additional cost unlike Cisco which makes you purchase an annual "SmartNet" service contract for support.

I set up a MVP200 at my home to communication with my companies' global offices and clients that have VOIP units. I connected mine to a cordless phone I use around the house: it is nice to be at home in my PJ's when a call comes in from Germany at 5:00am. If you purchase a MVP200, I think you will enjoy the product as much as I have.
