Nice Small Remote, but Keyspan has bad Customer Care.

Jan 4, 2004 - By Alex (San Jose, CA United States)

I found this remote easy to install and set up with my iMac G4. You can customize the buttons on the remote to do virtually anything from moving the mouse cursor to keyboard commands to quiting and opening different applications.

The only problem I have had was when I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, the volume buttons no longer operate the system volume anymore. I have sent MULTIPLE emails to Keyspan with only a reply saying they will respond in 72 hours, but THEY DONT! Everytime I try to call nobody answers the phone.

In conclusion, this is a great remote for controlling everything on your computer from a few feet away, but beware if you need any technical support because they may not be there to help you.

A very affordible and very functional IR remote.

Oct 23, 2002 - By Loren Gilmore (Fort Bragg, CA United States)

I use this product with my Apple iBook and it's a great tool and toy. I painlesly installed the drivers and it imediately recognized iTunes and Apple DVD Player. The range is amazing for such a small unit, I've presented PowerPoint presentations with it from across the room with no trouble. Being the couch potato that I am I also programed the remote to control my desktop so that I can browse files and open applications as needed without acutally having to aproach the computer. The device is light, hot pluggable, and verstile, I carry it around with my computer and whenever I find myself near a mutimedia projector I can insert a DVD, plug the projector into the computer, and have a nice movie screen on a wall of my choice, and for a bathroom break I just it the pause button. All this and more for under [$].

Comfortable, versatile adn well worth the price

May 2, 2002 - By Vincenzo G. Mastrolilli (Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana)

Since the previous reviewer did a pretty good job of telling readers what this remote is all about I will just complement that review with my experiences. This device is awesome, I used as a TV remote with an ATI TV WONDER card and it worked great under both Windows ME and Windows 2k. The programing process can seem difficult at first, but it is really very intuitive and best of all, it works every time!!!. After a couple of days I was using the remote to launch and use Windows Media Player, Cyberlink's Power DVD, Musicmatch, Powerpoint and ATI's Multimedia Center. I even used it for shutting down my PC.

The only real shore was figuring out the keystroke pressed needed to do everything in this programs but I was just being lazy.

I thought the only thing lacking in this remote was a mouse pointer, so I tried using an X10 mouseremote, but that device suffers because it uses terrible software, which just made me apreciate Keyspan's device even more.

I encountered absolutely no technical problems using the Keyspan remote, I even switched it to a USB hub and it still worked great. Just follow the manual closely during installation and you will be fine.

With latest drivers, it works with both mouse and keyboard!

Aug 8, 2002 - By Prerak Sanghvi (New York, NY)

This is one of the cheapest and best remote controllers available for the PC today. It has 17 buttons, that are fully configurable. The key mapper software packaged with this remote is pre-configured for a number of different software applications - Cyberlink PowerDVD, ATI multimedia center, ATI DVD player, MS Powerpoint, CD Player, Winamp, and many more. Of course, you can always add an application yourself and configure the buttons accordingly.

You can configure the buttons to hit keystrokes - single or repeated with configurable repeat frequency and number of strokes - or cause mouse movements and clicks (yes!! with the latest version of the keymapper software, mouse movement is possible). You can ensure that Ctrl, Alt or Shift keys are accompanied with any of the key strokes or mouse clicks.

The battery in the remote control is a standard camera battery, and it runs for a reasonably long time. I am using it extensively since last 1 year, and the batteries aren't even weak yet. The remote control works even when it is not exactly pointed towards the IR receiver. In fact, it works over a really wide range of angles.

The only complain I would have with this remote is that the buttons and the remote itself are too small! For a small presentation or for occasional use, it may not mean much, but if you're going to be watching DVD movies on your computer and you like to change Volume at every scene (like me) then you may feel uncomfortable holding the small thing in your hand for too long!

All in all, a definite buy for anyone who uses their computer for multimedia purposes.

Exelent product

Mar 27, 2006 - By Matt Modica (Chelmsford, MA United States)

The remote works great! I can control all my DVDs with it from across the room. At first I had a little trouble configguring the remote, but now it is configgured and it works great. I would note that there is a newer version of the software for the remote out than what came on my CD. As of today (3/26/06), the latest version of the software is 2.2, and can be found at [...]
