Solid product, few glitches

(4 out of 5) by Rob on Oct 21, 2001 (Queens, NY)
I've had this player for about 2 weeks now and overall have found it to be very good. The picture is great, and the features are good. The built in speakers could have been better but they do the job. The main problems I've had has been with it's ability to overheat if it's not on a solid well ventilated surface, also the picture skips at the slightest vibration. The thing is loaded with cautions and warnings saying that just about anything will void the warrenty or cause it to melt down. Overall, it does the job and the price is unbeatable. I would reccommend this unit to someone who is looking for something bare bones and is on a budget.

Much better than I expected, but everything soon changed

(2 out of 5) by Scott Kennedy on Jan 16, 2003 (Chattanooga, TN United States)
I received the Audiovox DVD1500 for Christmas, after having asked for a Panasonic or a Toshiba portable DVD player. My mother-in-law saved over $... by getting me this one, so I don't fault her. However, had I been shelling out the money I would have done without until I could have afforded more.

Once I got used to the fact that I know owned an Audiovox product (something I had vowed never to do), I found that this little unit had some pretty good features: S-Video out, Optical Digital Out, a pretty decent screen, and good battery life. My only complaints were that it was kind of clunky (unlike the 2nd and 3rd generation models that are much slimmer) and it also couldn't play MP3's.

We used the player in the car ride home and my son watched about five Baby Einstein DVDs. I used it a little to watch bits and pieces of some new DVDs I had gotten for Christmas. Finally, the other night I snuggled into bed to watch Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's stone. About halfway through it began to skip and hang-up. I checked the DVD multiple times and there were no scratches and no dust. It also wasn't acting up in the same spot like a scratch would have caused. I did notice that the unit was quite hot.

Since then it will play a DVD for about a minute or so and then freezes or skips ahead eventually a couple chapters. I'm getting ready to ship it back to Audiovox--IF my mother-in-law still has her receipt. Otherwise, Audiovox wants $...to repair the device. Remember what I said I'd do if I were spending my own money?

My ** 2 star rating is an average of:
**** four stars for features
* one star for design (too big and heavy)
* one star for quality (broke after limited use)

Further News....(see...Was it made in Russia?)

(1 out of 5) by M. La Vean on Nov 19, 2002 (Michigan)
I sent my player into Audiovox as instructed along with my receipt from Amazon.com...as far as I know it has been sent into space...I know it arrived (I sent it UPS and can track it) But once it went in it became a mystery...

Let's review...

Did not work during the warranty period...
Needed authorization from Amazon to send it back (the warranty period on Amazon's site is 1 year...on the Audiovox site it is only 3 months)
Sent into the ether...So I dont even have the body....

You be the judge...is it worth the money? Is Audiovox a company you want to trust?

DVD1500 A great system but a little heavy

(4 out of 5) by BJ on Jan 12, 2002 (Edison, NJ United States)
I compared this system with several others and found that for the price and what you walk away with nothing came close. I paid [$] for it and think that it was money well spent. The only down side would be the weight. At a little over 3lbs it is heavy so make sure you purchase a bag to carry it in. The picture and sound are good and it comes with enough wires that you can connect it to almost anything. All in All I think this is a Great Little Player.
