THE MASTER REVIEW YOU HAVE TO READ...IS HERE!!!

(5 out of 5) by Master_Fuji on Jan 18, 2001 (CANADA)
Alright. Now, I know you are definitely considering purchasing this Konka product, otherwise you wouldnt be browsing in this particular section of the Amazon.com site.

Well, first off, I must say that the brand "Konka" just happens to be THE largest electronic distributor in China! They have also been making and manufacturing alota products and parts for other famous brand names, such as: Sony, Panasonic, Yamaha, JVC, etc. I know you may find this hard to believe, but it is "TRUE."

The Konka KD-1800U1 is a totally well made, mid-range product. It is easily an under estimated and under rated product of the year 2000. But that is all because majority of todays population today have never heard of this brand name before, therefore do not reconize them.

Here is my review as I broke it down conclusively:

PICTURE & PLAYABILITY: 9.5/10

Very high, picture quality here! Video is sharp, crisp and well defined. Only downfall is that video occasionally does freeze temporarily when playing video. I found this extoradinary quality to be easliy ranked up with the big boy brands, such as Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc.

SOUND: 9.5/10

Again, very crisp, and crystal clear pure digital optical sound. Whether youre using it with a Dolby or DTS reciever, either way you will be well satisfied and very pleased. Again, Konka's sound sits up top with the big boys brands!

FEATURES: 9.5/10

What else could you possibly ask for? For the price you pay for this product, trust me...you find everything here! It is THE complete package to own! EX. DTS, Dolby 5.1, Digital Coaxial, S-Video,....WOW! Note, that I would only consider using this for personal use, and not business. For business rich add ons, look to spend at least $1000-$1500.

To simply to conclude this product: GET IT NOW!!! ITS A BARGAIN FOR THE PRICE!!!

I USE MINE, AS AN EXTRA SPARE DVD PLAYER, AND I GOT IT FOR $100, U.S,......ITS AWESOME!!! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

NOW, GO!!!

Few glitches...great value

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 17, 2000
While there are a few glitches of this unit, largely related to the responsiveness of the remote control, overall it is an excellent value and great entry device into DVD.

Big problem with thid DVD player

(1 out of 5) by micropion on Sep 13, 2004 (Canada)
This DVD player is capable to read only half of DVD's in the market place. Is a firmware exist to correct that situation? I don't know... In many cases this Konka DVD player will stop to read a DVD in some parts of a film... But when it's working images are very good... Meanwhile, it should be always good to read DVD's...

GREAT!

(5 out of 5) by Bob Marley on Apr 16, 2001 (Texas)
I must admit, I waited a while to write this review. When I saw some reviews that named problems with this player, I thought that I had better wait a while before giving it a glowing review (then to have it break the next morning.) It's been a little over a month now, and I must say the Konka KD1800U1 is a wonderful piece of machinery. It's setup was practivally idiot-prof (plug three wires into the front/back of TV, whatever the case may be.)I have run into the lock-up problem, but I'm resonably sure that was my fault. (I was tinkering with the VCR at the time. It began playing while I had my Gladiator DVD going.) The picture quality is vastly superior to my newest and best VCR.

Other items to note: Konka has re-arranged the remote. It is much more sensibly laid out now.

Despite what the editorial review says, the 1800U1 does have DTS decoding.

All in all, this DVD player is absolutely wonderful! The build quality and price are two reasons you really should buy this if you're looking for a budget DVD player.

The company

(5 out of 5) by Fan Wang on Apr 8, 2001 (Beijing, China)
Konka is the biggest TV manufactuer in China(One of the bigger DVD makers too). China as the biggest TV market(and one of the biggest electronic market) in the world is also the most competitive market with all the Japanese and domestic companies fighting over it. Konka made their name in China with quality and price, winning customers back from Sony and Panasonic and Toshiba and JVC, going from a tiny outfit ten years ago to one of the biggest company in China, and now they are in the US! It's a exciting fresh force in the US electronic landscape. But because of its novelty, and lack of promotion, not much American people know it. But trust me, they sell tens of millions of TV sets(and other electronics) in China every year, they are famous and big, and they can be trusted.
