Best money you'll ever spend

Not a day goes by when I'm not more amazed and impressed with this inexpensive unit. Not only does it do DVD, but it also does VCD and SVCD! Best of all it'll even play video files on CDR AND CDRW that I make myself using my PC and cd burner. I can edit a file from my DV cam in Premiere, dump it to an SVCD compatible file, and watch my creations with little loss in quality.

Good looking Great color, sound, and overall quality

I first saw this unit in a local electronic store last year. The elegant face panel caught my attention immediately.
Now I have been using this player for about 1 week. I am very satisfied with this purchase so far. The installation was easy. It took me about 3-5 minutes to connect the cable and power. I tried DVD, CD, VCD, CDR and they all played flawlessly. The color and sound of this player are excellent (It beats my friend's much more expensive DVD player from a well-known brand). The remote control is also silver color and looks very cute. I did not experience any slowness that was mentioned by several other reviewers. Like a previous reviewer, I also think that the slowness of some remote controls might be caused by weak batterys. I had similar problem with my TV remote control before. After replacing battery, the problem was gone.
All in all, I feel this is a high-quality product at bargain price. I will give Konka serious consideration in my next home electronics purchase.

A great value player may suffer from fatal power

The Konka player manufanctured by one of china's major TVmakers, boasts notable quality for the price. Aside from the slick silver styling, the 1800U is a fairly typical bottom-end DVD player. One major bonus not found on other inexpensive DVDs is both kinds of digital outputs, optical and coaxial. There's no DTS decoding, however.
Despite the low price this unit is equiped with features that you only see on the more expensive units (S-video, multi angle options, etc.). One of the player's great strengths is its ability to play CD/VCD/CD-R The DD 5.1 seems right on target, but it is not DTS compatiple.
BEWARE: After asking friends and people at work, I have come to question its initial performance. It seems some players have been equiped with a 300MA fuse which blows easily instead of a 350MA one.
I found that the first batch of units had a power supply problem where the player would suddenly stop working, usually with a DVD in it. Konka USA will replace those units free of charge, or you can fix it yourself by replacing and power supply fuse with correct type. Regardless of the fuse, the unit generates a lot of heat. But it seams like the units on sale by Amazon are new enough that the problem has been fixed. I price is an issue and you are not sure about buying a DVD player from an unknown manufacture, try some by Phillips or RCA. Otherwise, spend an extra [money] to get a reliable player.
Hope this helps.

It Is Worth the Money!!!

I am not a huge electronics freak so this was a great puchase for me...my first DVD player and what a good looking bargain! I don't care about a fancy remote because all of my other remotes are not backlit, and I have the intelligence to memorize button locations after a few runs. As for drive noise well... I will admit about 15 percent of the time the drive will act up and a bit of noise, but again I am intelligent enough to block it out and turn up my stereo speakers. It plays movies as well as any brand I have seen and sounds as equal. The fancy rear connections that may be missing do not mean much to me right now, but hell I have other things to worry about in life than the best of the best DVD players, when in my mind I have exactly what I need...a superior affordable Konka! Buy it Today!

High Quality DVD Player For A Low Price

My Konka DVD player has worked flawlessly since I received it about a month ago. The picture and sound quality are superb. This is without a doubt the best looking dvd player under $200. I have had no problems at all with the unit locking up, and have never had to power the system down because of a glitch. The remote could be layed out a little better with bigger buttons. The batteries that come with the remote are not very good. I replaced them with some alkaline batteries and the remote responded much better. I have played dvd's, vcd's, and audio cds and they all work great. I am very happy with my purchase.
