Must have gotten a bad one...

(1 out of 5) by Sean Gentry on Jan 27, 2001 (Edgerton, Ohio USA)
Well, I ordered my Konka after researching a lot of other low priced DVD players and I thought that it might be a good one. I was wrong. When I recieved it, I excitedly unpacked it, hooked it up to the tv, and proceeded to place a audio CD in to (I hadn't bought a DVD yet since I was waiting to see if it would work). It went in just fine and thing seemed like they would work, except I couldn't hear the drive spinning. I didn't think that was a problem until an error popped up on the screen. When I tried to retrieve the CD from the player, the tray wouldn't come out! It took a complete power down before I could get it to open. Then, after I shut the tray with nothing in it, the error popped up again. To make a long story short, none of my CDs would work in the thing and the error would pop up seconds after closing the tray whether anything was in there or not. I have since then returned it and am plannign on buying a Toshiba, which I have heard good reviews about. Sorry Konka, but I think you have a while to go before you can make as good of products as the "big boys".

Well what can I say....

Some huge compatibility issues with this player. If you have a sony tv stay away from it. I try to turn up the volume on it and the picture freezes but it is still playing, at that point the unit is locked up and you have to turn it off and them back on for it to work. If you can get around that issue.. the picture quality is great, yes the remote is a little slow in responce but for 200 bucks you probably didnt expect this much

Regarding "motor" noise

(5 out of 5) by Bob Marley on Sep 30, 2001 (Texas)
I ran into that problem with a few rented movies or discs that I had watched a lot. The problem goes away after you wash the DVD with some dish soap and water.
I've had my unit since March(?) still works fine. It even played a damaged DVD that I had to repair.
Tough luck this things are out of stock, becuase they really are quite good for how much they cost.

Check Merchandise before shipping

I was very excited to recieve my new sleek looking bargain priced DVD player. But I soon learned that you get what you pay for. When I put a DVD in all the player does is make a scrapeing sound then say there is "No CD" in the drive or "Invalid". Then my Dvd comes out with scratches on it. The unit appears to be in mint condition, no signs of damage on the boxes it came (it came in two boxes). Sorry I oredered it. I lost my money.

Buyer Beware - Avoid the Konka DVD player!

(1 out of 5) by Chris P. Chesney on Dec 16, 2000 (New York, NY USA)
My wife and I received a Konka DVD player through Amazon for our wedding and it has been a complete nightmare. The first player we received had real trouble tracking CDs and DVD playback was heavily distorted. As a new vendor from China, Konka has no established service outlets in the United States so there is nowhere you can take it for warranty service. I wrote a letter to Amazon to see if they could be any help given their historic focus on the customer experience. Amazon then sent me a series of cryptic responses (e.g. "We received your e-mail and appreciate your comments. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.") which were obviously generated by a computer. No help.

Then one day we mysteriously received another Konka from Amazon (without having asked for one) and upon installing it discovered that it was completely defective and incapable of any playback.

Unless you're a glutton for punishment I suggest you avoid the Konka DVD player and consider buying from a vendor with a legitimate service network. By Murphy's law, if there are no easy ways to service the player, it will break.
