While shopping for a large screen television, I had considered the Toshiba TN-43V71 and this model- the Sony KP-43T75.

KP-43T75 Advantages: Thinner (shallower depth-only 20") then most Rear Projection TV and Direct View TV's(Standard TV's); Lighter (about 140 lbs) than most Direct View TV's; and Larger screen viewing area (43").

CRT Advantages: Wider viewing angle (both vertical- 55 degrees and horizontal- 130 degrees); and Shorter minimum viewing distance (only 5 feet).

Although the KP-43T75 projection TV has a larger screen, it is lighter and can be moved more easily. It also is a good choice for apartments or other smaller living spaces.

I would recommend buying the optional stand (SU-43T3) because without it the TV seem to be a little low for most normal sitting positions. The stand solves this problem of being a little low and it looks better with it. The stand has two shelves to and is just find for a VCR and Game system..

I would recommend renting or buying the "Video Essentials" DVD, or "Avia Guide to Home Theater" DVD to properly calibrate this TV since factory setting are pretty bad. If you don't feel like spend the extra money then you may just need to decrease the PICTURE (contrast), BRIGHTNESS, and SHARPNESS settings to achieve the best picture quality.

Overall I think this Sony 43' TV is a great investment if your in the market for buying a new Projection TV. You'll get excellent picture quality at an excellent price.

In shopping for a new larger television I looked at practically everything from 32 inches up - standard tvs, as well as projection tvs.

I settled on this product as the best unit, combining price and performance. While billed as a tv for smaller rooms,or apartments, we use this television in a room that's 18 x 30 feet, and the picture is just as great from 25 feet as it is from 8 feet.

The unit was a snap to set up and is light enough to move around if needed.

My only trouble with the set was in finding one !

This TV is an excellent buy. From easy set-up to wonderful features, you can't go wrong. The picture is very crisp and bright. The instructions for setting up to sound systems, cable boxes, VCR's and DVD's are very concise and accurate. The optional stand is a must because the TV by itself is quite low to the ground. Once you set the options and remote to control all your other pieces of equipment, you won't even need other remotes. I have an apartment and the TV is just the right size- not too big but big enough to justify the purchase! The convergence feature for tweaking the color tubes is worth the wait. Just a simple button press and the TV goes to work converging the colors with a simple 10 second procedure. That's it.

All in all, the week since I had the TV delivered has been a real waste becuase I have been watching, and playing, on it ever since. Highly recommended.

Inside of a year I had to have this TV repaired three times. I had the TV replaced based on the lemon law. I was givien the newer model, the KP43-T90. Now it too has broken. I don't mean that it doesn't work correctly. I mean that it doesn't work, period. The TV repair shop has now had it for two weeks and so far they don't know what other circuit to replace. Looks like I'm stuck with another lemon.

I've always held Sony up on a pedestal in the world of electronics so I thought buying the Sony KP43T75 would have been a great choice. The picture quality in the sales store seemed to be just as vibrant and brilliant as the Tube televisions. It was just the right size for my apartment with the minimum 5ft viewing distance and 130 degree vertical viewing angle. So I bought it. From the day I hooked this TV up I've had nothing but problems with it. I have time warner digital cable and when ever I wanted to watch HBO I would get this weird rolling of colors on my screen that would come and go sparatically. I called Time warner and they sent someone out that said nothing was wrong with the cable. I then called Sony. Sony sent out a technician who put a new resistor in the TV and said that would fix it. Nope. Three weeks later the Sony tech returned to replace the entire board in the TV. That fixed the color rolling problem but now the TV had a convergence problem were it would rapidly jump in and out of convergence making it impossible to watch anything. Two weeks later the Sony tech came out again with another replacement board. This has seemed to correct the problems mentioned above but the Sony tech did not completely go through and set the TV up correctly and now my picture is not centered and I have about 1 inch of black(no picture) along the left side of the screen. The Sony tech said it would be another week before he could be out to fix it. Also during this entire time when the TV is working alright the convergence was never to my satisfactory. It would look good for about two days after the Sony tech came out and adjusted it then it would start getting worse after that, no matter how many times I pressed the flash focus button. I guess this is expected though with any projection TV. From the other reviews that I've read it seems that I may have gotten a lemon of a TV. I just thought this might help someone else before they bought this TV. If your a person that expects perfect picture quality then this is not the TV for you. Get a Wega or atleast a tube television. I don't think that picture quality should have to suffer this much to get a larger screen size. It's hard to rate this TV since I think that my problems may have been an isolated incident. I would give it 3.5 stars if it worked, but for my TV, I'll have to give it 1.5 stars.
