great little camcorder

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 13, 2000
The Panasonic Palm-corder series are all excellent values. I looked into various models and chose the PV-L550 because it is affordable and has the LCD display (with a built in speaker). At first I didn't think I'd need the LCD display, but now I love it! This model comes with a 2 hour battery, recharger, VHS adapter/playpack and shoulder strap. The lower models don't have the LCD display but do have a color viewfinder and the higher cost models have larger LCD displays, remote controls and other neat bells and whistles. The playback both on LCD display and the the TV are very clear. The motion sensor came in handy when I wanted to see which dog was causing havoc in the living room. The prices on all the models vary greatly from store to store and from website to website, so do some serious cost comparison before purchasing. The price variation I saw was over $100! I also purchased an extra 3 hour battery directly from Panasonic.com because I video tape a lot of weekend sports activities and often don't have time to recharge the battery. Overall, a great value!

Great Camcorder!

(5 out of 5) by Tracy Collins on Aug 15, 2000 (Blairsville, GA USA)
I got this Panasonic Yesterday, and it works great! I tried filming our dog runnng around in circles and it still picks up with no lines at all on the screen when you veiw it later. If you want a light, small, camcorder this is the one for you.. Not to mention its also pretty cheap. The price on here was 396.91 and that included shipping charges. At Sears its 399 withOUT taxes.. Good Deal HERE!

Small but works like full size

(5 out of 5) by mr. tegs on Nov 22, 2000 (Cedar Rapids, IA United States)
I'll keep it simple. Lots of neat bells and whistles. Small camcorder that works like full size VHS. Has a nice adaptor for the VHS VCR. I tried other camcorders and full size VHS cameras before I bought this one and it was the closest to working like a full size camera. It is very light weight even with the battery on it. Your arm does't get tired from holding it up. It is also nice to have the LCD when you want to tape your whole family you don't have to look in the view finder to be sure it's lined up right. You just turn the LCD screen to face the front of the camera.

ITS SIMPLY A GOOD BUY. WE WANTED A CAMCORDER FOR EVERYDAY USE BECAUSE WE HAVE A NEW BABY AND THIS ONE BECAME THE RIGHT ONE, AS MY WIFE WANTS TO TAPE EVERY MINUTE OF THE BABY'S MOMENTS ITS VERY EASY TO OPERATE AND HANDLE, JUST THE RIGHT BUTTONS AND THE RIGHT FUNCTIONS. WE ARE VERY HAPPY.

Good for the Price , But ..............

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 15, 2000
I just received mine today. Everything looks very good, BUT : 1. The image stabilization does not do anything. I went to Wallmart and tried all camcorders that had Digital Image stabilization - the Sony and RCA there was noticeble difference with it on and off. I tried another Panasonic there - there is almost no difference. If you could, play little exra money (like 100.00) and get the SOny one with SteadyShot and NightVision.
