HOMEWORK PAYS OFF

(5 out of 5) by Ted Schiller on Feb 26, 2001 (North Fort Myers, Florida USA)
First of all, please understand that I purchased this VCR as a replacement for a Philco VCR bought in 1982 that finally gave up the ghost (what's a Philco? you might ask). Purchasing the Sharp was not an easy decision with all the comparable product on the market. After diligent research and striving for "oranges to oranges" comparisons, the Sharp became the apparent choice because of price, reputation, and the desired "bells and whistles." Auction offerings, including Amazon's, were scrutinized and eliminated for the sake of sanity and risk of purchase (did you ever read the conditions attached to an auction purchase?). After placing the order, the unit arrived on time without damage. Amazon takes extra care in packaging to protect the contents from any package tossers and maulers that may have found their way onto the payroll of the delivery companies. The documentation with the VCR is well written and comprehensive. Some of the set up features are automated, so take your time in reading and re-reading the instructions. Preparation and reading will be time well spent. I'm extremely pleased with the unit from the get go, but haven't tried all of the features offered. Because I'm too embarrassed to ask my 12 year old grandson to explain all of this new stuff to me, I will continue to take my time and learn as I go, hoping this unit last as long as the old Philco, or at least as long as I do.

Poor service from this seller

(1 out of 5) by Diana Rankin on Jan 7, 2009 (Columbus, Ohio)
I ordered this product for my daughter who still has a lot of VHS tapes and no way to watch them. Upon arrival of the Sharp 4 head VCR, she noticed that viewing the tapes was nearly impossible due to the grainy pattern on the screen. She contacted the seller who told her to buy a head cleaner and it should clear up; however, it did not improve. We again contacted the seller to tell him we would be shipping back the item for a refund. We shipped the item back (with signature requirement upon receipt) and the seller signed for the item on December 16; however, we are still awaiting our reimbursement(3 weeks later). The seller replied to our recent email (inquiring about reimbursement) saying he had not received the shipment. We had to remind him that he had signed for the shipment weeks ago. He has not replied to our "reminder" and again, we are still awaiting reimbursement for this faulty product.

switched models ok

(5 out of 5) by Ed on Dec 19, 2008 (Maryland)
I guess the 2 different models I ordered were out of stock. Instead you sent me 2 of the VCH982U models. In my opinion, this change was an "upgrade", so I thank you very much. The whole process of ordering and quick shipping was appreciated. OldStuff99 gets 5 stars from me.
Both units look like new and work good.
