I did not like this phone.

(2 out of 5) by Thomas on Jun 11, 2000 (Upland, CA)
This is an expensive phone and I was expecting better sound quality. It looks neat and I loved how it looks and its small size, however the sound quality was worse than my old Panasonic 49mhz phone that was 6 years old. There was a echo when I talked and a constant humming sound that I could not get rid of. For all the hype about 2.4 gigahetz phones I am not impressed. I returned it for Toshiba FD-9859 for less than half the cost and have been very happy with Toshiba's 900 digital phone.

It's the Wave of the Future

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 6, 2000 (Michigan)
I purchased the Vtech 2431 phone along with a satellite phone a few weeks ago. I absolutely love it! My daughter wanted a phone in her room, but there was no phone jack and I didn't want to think about how much it would cost to have another jack installed. The 'satellite' phone has solved that problem and she just loves the neat, small design with Caller ID. This light-weight phone can be easily carried around using the belt loop or in your pocket. There is an area in the base to charge an auxiliary battery (not included) that stays charged and ready in the event of a power failure. You can then still use your phone for up to 5 hours! The only thing that would make this phone perfect is if it came with an answering machine. I can envision all phone systems of the future consisting of a base phone plus 'satellites' for the rest of the house.

Feature packed, limited range

(4 out of 5) by The Camera Eye on Jun 5, 2000 (Bowie, Maryland USA)
I would definitely agree with the reviews stating that the range is limited, but I have noticed similar opinions on other 2.4ghz phones also. In a direct comparison, the range seems to be just about identical to my old 900mhz analog AT&T cordless phone. However, clarity within that range seems to be slightly better on this phone. The range is AT LEAST 150 feet. Otherwise, it has just about every feature you could possibly imagine: caller ID & Call Waiting ID w/ name & number, excellent multi-line display, a log of redial numbers, six different ring options, supports 3 additional handsets (only needs to be hooked up at one phone jack), a fully duplexed speaker phone at the base, message indicator light (if you subscribe to the phone company voice mail), mute button (on each handset & the base), headphone jack on each handset, hold button & spare battery compartment/charger. However, the additional handsets run about $80 a piece (another $240 if you decide to add the maximum 3 additional). Overall, a very good product though.

Save Your Money

(1 out of 5) by Curt on May 20, 2000 (Anderson, IN)
The VTech 2431 2.4GHz phone looks great and is loaded with features. But the range is terrible and there is a constant low hum on the line during conversations, plus occasional echoing. I spent an hour on the phone with Vtech technical support and followed all their recommendations like moving the base upstairs to get better reception, but to no avail. I even exchanged the phone for another one thinking it might be defective. Finally, I gave up and returned the phone.

its a keeper

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 12, 2000
vtech has finally lost weight with their new phone, the vt2431 is about the size of a cellular phone and the base-speakerphone is the size of a paperback book, small in size but big on features.the handset has a built in speaker and the sound is great, four ringer sounds to choose from.the only weak point might be that the range is not the greatest, maybe 60 or 70 ft from the base, but overall this cordless phone is well "up there" in the new styles and features.its a keeper in my book!
