Best phone on the planet

(5 out of 5) by Foodie on Aug 25, 2001 (USVI)
I've been searching for the perfect phone for many many years-- this is it. It has every feature I want: lit keypad for dialing in the dark, speakerphone on base AND handset, keypad on base, caller ID on handset, compact design, call notes message waiting light, intercom capability, cordless extension units, etc. The battery life is excellent and the range is fabulous. Last night I took my handset up to the roof of my downtown apartment building and not only did the phone work but it was clear as a bell. I've read the other reviews and it's unfortunate that one guy had interference problems. I've had none, and there are some DSS dishes near me plus my wireless D-Link also broadcasts at 2.4 GHz-- I've surfed the net while talking on my phone-- no problem. It's great to buy a product that actually lives up to my expectations. Buy this!

It's the Wave of the Future

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 6, 2000 (Michigan)
I purchased the Vtech 2431 phone along with a satellite phone a few weeks ago. I absolutely love it! My daughter wanted a phone in her room, but there was no phone jack and I didn't want to think about how much it would cost to have another jack installed. The 'satellite' phone has solved that problem and she just loves the neat, small design with Caller ID. This light-weight phone can be easily carried around using the belt loop or in your pocket. There is an area in the base to charge an auxiliary battery (not included) that stays charged and ready in the event of a power failure. You can then still use your phone for up to 5 hours! The only thing that would make this phone perfect is if it came with an answering machine. I can envision all phone systems of the future consisting of a base phone plus 'satellites' for the rest of the house.

Frustrating and dissapointed...

(3 out of 5) by D. Sterling on Apr 14, 2001 (Seattle, WA United States)
I have had these phones (4) for about 6 months now. I find the audio quality to be satifactory , however I have had a number of other problems which have now pursuaded me to replace the phones this weekend.

1. At least a few times a week upon answering the phone, the handset "Searches for Base", and drops the incoming call. This is even when the base is 2 feet away.

2. Voice mail alert has NEVER worked, not even in 3 different telephone service areas.

3. Ambient noise is super-loud in the earpiece.

I advise against purchasing this phone.

I'm glad I wasn't persuaded by the negative reviews.

I almost didn't buy this phone because of the negative reviews posted here. It sounded like there were too many problems with this model. My previous experiences with VTech were good, though, so I took a chance. I'm glad I did.

This is a great phone. The sound is good in the both handset and speakerphone modes. The range is good all over my house and yard. I did have to read the instructions to figure out the menu, but it didn't take long. The intercom feature is very convenient.

One warning, don't buy this phone if the only place you have for it is next to a microwave or computer. They DO interfere with the phone.

We really like having this phone, and use it a lot.
