Really good phone, but a few usability issues

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 13, 2000 (Seattle, WA USA)
First, the sound quality of the phone is great -- and it does have good range and doesn't seem to have interference problems. The user interface on the phone is fine and it is comfortable to use when you need to do something else with your hands. The two complaints I have about it is that there is no way to change the headset with a different one since the headset is built in. The headset is comforable to wear BUT there is this joint that catches my hair and sometimes I sacrafice a few strands to it. Since the headset is part of the phone, I have to live with this problem. The other usuability problem is that you always have to take the unit out of the charge base in order to answer the phone. I have this phone by my computer, so often I can wear the headset very near the charge base -- but I always have to remember that I need to take the phone out of the base EVEN though it looks like I could easily use it by leaving it in. Despite these problems, I still would recommend the phone.

GE 269702ge2 900 MHz Cordless Headset with Caller ID

(4 out of 5) by William R. Firestone on Oct 22, 2000 (Drumright, OK United States)
I wear hearing aids that do not fit completely in the ear. This headset does not cause feed back, has more than adquate volume on lower settings and is comfortable enough to wear for extended periods. Battery life is good and with two batteries supplied there is no reason not to recycle the NiCads as recommended. All to the good, now the irritants: 1. The headset cord is to stiff, it tends to be bothersome. A more flexible cord is desireable but, because the headset is hard wired, it would be difficult to change, perhaps requiring professional maintenance people. 2. While there is more than enough information on the display it is from difficult to impossible to read in normal room light because of reflection from the window. I can see why many people buying this phone have also purchased a seperate caller ident readout, I will also.

Terrible quality

Great phone for around three months. This is my second as I thought the first one breaking was a fluke. The second one broke after the same time period, same exact symptoms. Expensive disposable phone.

Not as bad as all that

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 8, 2001
I'm surprised at the almost vicious denigration of this unit. I have owned one for six months and have found it to be useful, comfortable and free of problems. I live in the middle of town in a small apartment complex surrounded by just about every major and minor appliance and electronic device known and have had no interference problems. It does however get a little staticky when I wander away from the apartment complex. I have worn the headset many times for up to four hours continuously without any discomfort. I don't have call waiting and can't comment on this feature. And while I agree the headset cord is no limp noodle, I've had no problems with kinking and the little clip on the cord is useful in keeping it out of the way. I bought the phone so I could continuously move around and can't fault the belt clip, though the clip is too small for a large belt and works better clipped to a pants pocket or the pants themselves. I do wish the backlight feature of the display was controllable. The display is easily read with the backlight on but only comes on when using the keys. Otherwise I find I need a good direct light source. In summary, a good useful unit with which I am well satisfied.

It's great while it lasts!

I have had my phone for about 9 months and have absolutely LOVED it. The sound quality is clear and I appreciate the volume control feature. I spend a lot of time on the phone and it really frees my hands so I can do chores while talking. But...

1. The belt clip is pretty useless; the phone keeps falling off. I often end up putting the phone in the large pocket of a robe or jacket.

2. After only 9 months the phone has died. I think the cord wears out and there is no way to replace it.

I will consider buying another one only because there is no product like it on the market (that I know of), but I will make sure and hang on to my receipt, because I will likely need to replace it before the warranty is up.
