Good value for money

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Oct 4, 1999
The D-E551 has a big advantage: it is lightweight. Slim but solid, its anti-shock system allows some movements. But don't expect miracles. In my vest pocket, it lost the tracks after a few seconds of fast walking. It need to be carried in a backpack or in a belt pouch, or request a gentle walk.

The shipped headphones are of astonishing good quality for popular and orchestral music with the Master Bass setting. I was not thrilled with opera, because the voices lacked some dynamic. Groove setting is overkill for any kind of music: dynamic range is lost and the sound is no more balanced.

Good alkaline batteries last 15-20 hours, depending on the frequency and the volume setting. Since I'm often on travel, I prefer having expandable batteries over rechargeable ones and this player offers a very reasonible power consumption.

The main con of the device is the lack of carrying case. My unit got quickly some scratches on the relatively soft plastic cover.

But on average, it is a good buy I don't regret. Very good value for money, especially for people who think that small is beautiful.

Awesome CD player!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 1, 1999
This CD player is extremely good. The sound quality out of the headphones they give you is superb, and it's even better out of more expensive headphones. The sound is very crisp and clear. The CD player is very small in size so you can take it almost anywhere and has a slot for a remote which adds convenience. It also comes with an AC adapter and the batteries last a very long time. I am having a difficult time making it skip. The only con is it is a little bit pricy, but it's definately worth it. I HIGHLY reccomend this CD player.

Current CD to Minidisc Steal!!!

(5 out of 5) by Sandeep Koorse on Oct 2, 2001 (Seattle, WA)
This CD player is awesome!!! It is the cheapest CD player (the "used" ones are actually factory sealed) with an optical out. I only intended to use it to digitally send sonds to my minidisc player, but it has great volume (much more than what you would expect from a portable) and the sound quality and build are top notch. I am so shocked that I got this new CD player for "so little".
If you are a minidisc owner, pick this up immediately!

Excellent Discman

(4 out of 5) by Peter M. Choy on Jan 24, 2000 (Southern California)
Great lightweight discman, created by Sony. It's just great, use it when I walk to school, at work, and it's just perfect. The only thing that is lacking is the cd-case, and the remote control. The MD-optical cable is rather easy to obtain, but the remote control is very hard to find. If anyone knows where I can obtain it, I'll greatly appreciate it.

good gift present

(5 out of 5) by Rebecca Hoffman on Jan 3, 2000 (Fort Worth, Texas)
I got this cd player for Christmas from my parents and i don't think they could have picked a better one. It was alot like my old cd player but so much better. I like how it's so slim and fits into some of my pockets. Also I LOVE all the features on the D-E551. And the resume was such a good idea. This is the BEST cd player I have ever had and would buy it for anyone who loves to listen music.
