The best audio equipment I've bought in 20 years
This is definitely my favourite piece of equipment in my house. The Sony MDS-S40 MiniDisc Recorder is simple to set up. Do you hate spending 30 minutes fiddling with a tiny control on your portable MD trying to type in the title of a song? Well, with this MD, you'll no longer have to do that! It comes with an easy to use remote control that contains a keypad where you can quickly and easily type in the titles to the songs on your MD. Another feature I find I could not live without is the editing capabilities. With the simple turn of a knob, you can divide or combine tracks (it even plays an example to see if you've marked the track in the spot you want) and you can move and delete tracks. It also has the handy undo function, just in case you screw something up. With some MD's, especially some of the portables, you'll find that the shuffle function doesn't really do what it's supposed to do - it might choose track 5 as the first track, then several tracks later, it'll repeat track 5. The MDS-S40 is a lot smarter than this - once it's played a track when in shuffle mode, it marks it off its list, and won't play that track again. The MDS-S40 also has one optical input and one optical output, so you can digitally copy CD's onto MD's. The optical output can plug straight into a Dolby Digital receiver for top quality sound. All over, this is another fantastic product by Sony.

great deal
Recording MD's at home is very easy, I just program my hi-fi system with the songs i want to record and whenever i return the md is ready to be listened on the portable md player. It's a cheap tray, but still does everything the much more expensive one's do. Md's can also be heard at 2000 watts since the tray is connected to my sony hi-fi. The tray may also connect to the computer with the help of an audio cable and can record mp3's to minidisk! If something goes wrong with the recording the md can be re-wr, and several options are included for these problems: divide, track erase, disc erase, etc. Several features are: - Records up to 74 minutes of digital audio on a 2 1/2" MiniDisc - Covenient Jog Dial for Track selection and Text Entry - Remote Commander - Sampling Rate Converter - 20 Bit Hybrid Pulse Analog-to-Digital Converter - Powerful Editing: Divide, Combine, Move, Undo, Erase, Title, disc title - Optical Digital Input. Now i can hear the music I like, at home or on the go.
