Great for pop, rock and disco--DO NOT BUY for classical
This unit really lends itself to synthesizer-based music, but forget about listening happily to classical music, including opera. The brass section sounds tinny and the strings hollow, and no matter what equalizer setting I put it on, nothing helps. Fortunately, my eclectic tastes in music leave me plenty of satisfactory options, but classical CDs truly sound better on my Magnavox boombox than on this thing. It does, however, look nice on a shelf, plus you're not commited to the speakers since you can plug other kinds in, unlike some mini-systems.

BEST IN THE WORLD FOR THIS PRICE!!
This minisystem REALLY outperforms the rest! I just got mine about three weeks from now and I'm very pleased with the way the speakers sound. Consisting of a 4-way speaker system (Tweeter, Midrange, Woofer, and a Subwoofer), this baby cranks out a total of 220 watts(30watts per main speaker and 80 watts per sub). The highs are just right, and the low frequencies are reproduced very acurrately with lots of power. In addition, it has a three disc cd changer(able to change two while one's playing), dual cassette with the "TMS" feature from the Acura head decks, a karaoke and mic mixing system along with a jog dial. Also, there's a built in equalizer and a digital sound processor, which allows you to delay the audio signals before it reaches the speakers by milliseconds-thus creating an echoing effect. The equalizer also allows you to customize the frequency ranges you want to emphasize on (Example: you can add more on the bass and cut back on the highs if the music itself is robbed from low frequencies). And last but not least, the best part about this system is that you can listen to external sources through the Video/Aux input! This system is a definite buy for enthusiasts who want excellent sound reproduction for under 500 bucks. It's only drawback is that the housing of the dual 8" subwoofers affects the bass waves--you hear it best when you sit away 5 feet+ and in front of them. The instant you walk to the side or leave the room, the bass seems to have disappeared". But compared to other systems, this one is definetly the REAL THING!!!!

Not an electronics nut, but I know what I like!!!
I just purchased one of these units and I'm surprised to say it, but I have no regrets. I had never even heard of the Aiwa name before last week, which just goes to show you how much I know about stereos. But I must say, since I made the buy, the quality of sound, ease of use, and sheer good looks of this unit have made me a devoted follower. Compact, simple, sleek and classy, this unit has it all. Unlike a lot of plastic crap that comes out nowadays, this one looks like it will last, blasting forth waves of solid sound well past warranty expiration. I feel good about recommending this brand and this unit. I hope you have as much good luck with your purchase as I have with mine!
