Good for radar, awful for laser

(3 out of 5) by :) on Aug 20, 2000 (Portland, OR United States)
I have had this radar detector for six months. I purchased it after getting a $300 ticket. I will say it has saved me a number of times. It's radar detection is very good. I have never failed to be alerted to a cop using radar. However, Its laser coverage is highly lacking (I just got a ticket yesterday from a laser gun). It has never alerted me to a laser signal. despite the fact that I have driven by a number of officers using laser guns. If the police in your area use laser, don't get this detector. It doesn't work. However, if you want great radar detection this unit is very good and inexpensive.

Very Good

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jul 11, 2000 (Ankara, Turkiye)
Hi from Turkey, I bought it in Pittsburgh,PA and used it in highway from Pitt. to Washington. It was wonderfull, and i am using it in Turkey. It works very very good, it gives true alerts. It is also very small. 4 of my friends use it, and they like it. According to me it is wonderfull and very cheap.

Good Quality at great price!

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 14, 2000
I just wanted to let anyone out there who is looking for a quality radar at a reasonable price know that this is it! I have two radars, the 6000 and a bell model, and sure this doesn't have the all the whistles and stuff as my other one but it does a great job and will cost you about a hundred less. No radar is a guarantee in keeping you ticket free but this one does as good a job as any. Definitely recommend!

Saved me more than once

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 2, 2000
I have owned a few radar detecors, two much more expensive, and they were stolen. I read some good reviews on this model and liked the six band coverage, most other brands detect only four and Cobra safety radar system, the Safety Alert transmitter, is the only one that is being marketed to the police, fire, ambulance and construction vehicles and I read it is in use in all fifty states. Not that they are on most of these vehicles but it is growing and is real. The price was right and I trust the brand because I have owned two other Cobra detectors in the past and have a great results with their products. The Cobra 6000 has saved me four times in the the first six weeks I have owned it and have no tickets. It has great sensitivity which I appreciate because I have owned another detector that hardly ever went off and I was caught speeding. I like the city / highway filter selection to reduce false alerts in more populated areas where the speed limits are lower and the sensitivity does not need to be a great as it does for highway driving. If you forget to use this feature in populated areas like the city the detector will go off much more often because of the interference of automatic door openers and security systems at stores, banks, ect... A tip for those who think that owning a detector will eliminate getting tickets, IT'S NOT TRUE. It will greatly reduce the chance but you have to be smart and try not to lead the pack or drive recklessly over the limit that will not allow you to slow down in time when you are alerted. I know all of this from experience and while this does not have the bells and whistle cosmetic features that cost more money like voice or text display it does preform great and the price is right. Oh and don't leave your detector in plain view when the car is parked, I learned this the hard way.

Life Saver

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 16, 2000
Sure I've ran into a couple of occasions where the Cobra ESD-6000 did not quite pick up the radar signals quite as promptly as I would have liked it to, but it gave me just enough warning to slow my car up. To this day I still have a clean driving record, knock on wood. However I have not had any experience with the Bell models, but I might give them a go. But in the radar detectors I have seen perform, mine has kept my nose cleaner than some of my friends.
