Elaboration on why this is a bad choice

(2 out of 5) by D. Canfield on Oct 27, 2000 (Indianapolis, IN USA)
Several people have mentioned that this is a bad stereo, but here are a few details if you're still torn...

Looks: The pictures make this look like a really cool stereo. Out of the box, it looks pretty ugly. Yes, those speakers are indeed bright blue. No, the stereo is not chrome, it's cheap grey plastic. It's amazing how good the pictures make it look compared to the real thing. Also, the white cord that comes with it is difficult to hide in any place I've used it, and sort of looks tacky. You can use batteries, but...

Sound: Ick. This thing manages to make CD's sound like audio tapes. It gets distorted and washed out very quickly. I've spent probably a total of an hour trying to adjust the settings to get better sound out of it, but it just doesn't happen.

I got this unit free in a raffle, but I didn't like it enough to keep it. I took it into work and gave it to our techs to use in the repair room. They didn't even leave it hooked up for a week, the sound is that bad.

Hope this helps.

Looks yes, plastick YES; and performance....uhhh, no.

(1 out of 5) by G W Parker on Apr 10, 2000 (Leesburg, VA)
I bought my wife one of these for her small art framing shop. The look seemed appropriate -- she wanted to play a bit of background music while she worked without taking up too much space.

When you take this out of the box, you notice, plastic, plastic, and lots of it. The large volume knob rotates unevenly, and the switch gear and CD loading mechanism have a cheesy quality. After a couple of days of use, the CD player itself developed a bit of a squeaking sound as the CD rotated, and one speaker was clearly having trouble keeping up with even a little Phil Collins. (Hmmm, how hard could THAT be?)

My wife normally loves any gift, but after a few days she said "Honey, would mind terribly if we returned that stereo you bought me". I was glad she asked, and off it went. In our opinion, for the same cost you are much better off with a high quality boombox (less looks, more sound and reliability), or a basic function CD, amp, and a couple of speakers (as is now playing in her shop.)

all elegance but does not deliver what it's expected

(2 out of 5) by JRZ on May 2, 2000 (Columbia, SC)
i was intrigued by the design and in the store that i bought it it sounded really nice, but when i got home and took it out, i was dissapointed in the sound quality, it sounds good with low volume but when u turn it up it gets distorted, the speakers cannot take much. At first there's a noticeable squeaking when a cd is playing but thankfully it went away. If looks is what you are looking for then this is the one to get, but performance wise i don't think so.

Nice - but...

(3 out of 5) by N. Morse on Aug 5, 2000 (Seattle, WA USA)
I like the system, it's a perfect size and it's appearance isn't blocky or tacky like most systems. However, I'd have to say I've heard better - the speakers are okay, mine has already had to go in for service (the speakers were buzzing when I got it) and the LCD well, isn't consistent.

If you're looking for style and something for your office - this is great - though I'm not sure it's the best value out there. For home, I don't think I'd get it.

Executive Stereo (Maybe for their companie's Executives...)

(2 out of 5) by M. Shantar on Jun 5, 2000 (New York, NY United States)
Considering this radio comes in a box marked "Executive Microsystem" you might expect a little quality. Well, your expectations will not be met...they won't even come close to the poor performance and awful look of this radio. The pictures here don't let you see just how "China made" this plastic, molded, seems everywhere stereo is really composed of.

I would be estatic if all of Fishers Executives actually had to use this on THEIR desks, I think they would quickly change the design and more so the sound production.

I have returned this item and will never by from Fisher again.
